Dean's Message

The UMT Program of Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) was launched in 2012 at the then Department of Architecture and Planning for quality education in the city of Lahore. It was considered that the faculty plays Key role in the quality of education. Therefore it was considered appropriate to hire faculty with higher qualification, diversified field experience and a greater degree of world exposure with regard to architectural practice.

The Faculty plays the most fundamental role in education and training of students. Therefore the UMT always focuses on hiring the best faculty. Thus the Faculty of Architecture is fully competent, highly qualified and had a diversity of field experience. We have also seriously considered a unique high quality identity for our graduates, while following HEC and PCATP guidelines UMT curriculum of architecture and courses of reading also include a variety of Elective Subjects considering future needs and current trends.  These include “Understanding Current World”, “Green Architecture”, “Anthropology”, “Historical Geography”, Contemporary Architecture” and such others.

Thus Studies in Architecture cover every aspect of human life comprehensively.  These include social, cultural and technological aspects. It analyses the major contribution made by ancient civilizations and architecture produced during earlier times. It thoroughly considers on-going trends in the present world and possible directions leading towards developments in future.

Architecture is a process and product of planning, design and construction of buildings and other structures and the relevant ambiance. It demands creativity and clarity of thought based on sustainable considerations for future. The students are taught and trained to meet the current challenges. The courses of reading deal with architectural skills, both manual and through use of relevant computer softwares/ programs. It emphasizes on an innovative and deeper understanding of various materials used in construction of unique structures. The studies highly focus on theory, philosophy and history of architecture and built environment. All kinds of environmental issues are studied and analyzed which include social, psychological, physical and cultural.

The students are required to have more and more knowledge for innovative ideas. They are taught that Knowledge is power and that power is gained through discussion, debate and expression of one’s own original observations. Architecture is different. It cannot be taught through dictation. It is learnt with dedication and commitment. The teachers are resource persons and play a role of motivation and inspiration. This is the field where students are required to be creative, innovative and logical to produce masterpieces of architecture so they are recognized, loved and honored by the whole world.
