UMT Department of City and Regional Planning is one of the nation’s strongest undergrad planning programs. Department of City and Regional Planning at University of Management and Technology, Lahore is the nation’s first and only private sector institute that offers a degree of Bachelors of Science in City and Regional Planning. The degree is officially recognized by both the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP). City and Regional Planning is a field of study with multiple employment opportunities. Town Planners work in the government sector and private firms. Development authorities in major cities including Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Multan Development Authority (MDA), Faisalabad Development Authority (MDA), Capital Development Authority (CDA), and others have employed the majority of Town Planners on posts of Assistant Director, Deputy Director, and Director Town Planning. Similarly, city district governments and municipal corporations/committees also hire Town Planners in gazetted positions. Other government organizations where Town Planners are hired to include Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency, Planning and Development (P&D), Ministry of Defence, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy. Many Town Planners also work in Urban Unit, which is a public sector company. Various Town Planners extend their services as consultants for projects by the government and international monetary agencies like Asian Development Bank and World Bank. The perk of opting for this field as your field of study is being an urban policymaker in the future.
