Library Resources

The Library of the UMT is well equipped with the variety of books related to the areas of social, cultural, technological and other aspects of life. The books and other reading material related to architecture, building construction, urban and rural built environment, planning, sustainability, energy efficiency, geography, urban regeneration and architectural and urban conservation, and related engineering disciplines are available. The School is fully aware of further needs of the degree programs being offered.

Administration/Organization

The Board of Faculty of the School headed by a Dean will be the main academic body of the School (SAP). It mainly will administer the undergraduate and postgraduate programs Architecture and Planning. The two programs may be separately headed by the Chairmen and relevant Boards of studies.

Support Resources

The major requirement of the school is the suitable faculty with higher qualification, advanced knowledge and experience. In addition it requires support from the professional firms and their feed-back. Being located in Lahore, the second largest city and the cultural heart of the country, a number of experts of planning and architecture are accessible and are intact. The persons with high intellect and knowledge are to be invited to share their experience. Therefore extension lectures, workshops and seminars are comfortably organized. There is another important source of knowledge available at Lahore of its being a historical laboratory of the built environment of many centuries with most valuable information.

Need and Demand/ Career Prospects

The curriculum is designed to focus on depth and breadth of knowledge of architecture and planning. This includes special emphasis on Energy Efficient Architecture, Earth Quake Architecture, Sociology, Psychology, Geography, Urban Design, Sustainability and Architectural Conservation, Planning laws, Urban Transportation, Disaster Management, Regional, Urban and Rural Planning with appropriate considerations of future needs. The studies help in gaining more confidence and maturity to play a leading role in National and International projects of architecture, planning, management and other related issues of the Built Environment.

Cooperating Institutions

The School is in close contact with other institutions of Lahore, particularly with the Departments of Architecture and City and Regional Planning of various universities including University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, University of the Punjab, BNU, COMSATS, NCA and others. The interaction with other similar programs in the country is frequent. The Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP) is intact and providing useful information for accreditation of the degree. Thus the level of cooperation is very high and quick.

Diversity

The courses designed for the degree are highly diversified considering the international trends. They include the areas of built heritage, architectural conservation, urban planning and management, energy issues, environmental engineering, Disaster management, regional and rural planning.
