Why Degree in City and Regional Planning?

City and Regional Planning help communities envision their future and find the right balance of new development and essential services, environmental protection, and innovative change. In the context of Pakistan, rapid urbanization has led to an increased demand for planners and professional developers. Development of new residential colonies in the city outskirts and big business centers has opened vast opportunities for the graduates of this discipline.

Curriculum and Courses of Reading

The BS-CRP program at UMT is comparable to any international 4-year degree program and is compatible with the curriculum suggested by Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Preparation of the curriculum, selection of the faculty, planning of the infrastructural facilities such as dedicating building, classrooms, labs and other resources are designed to fulfill the Pakistan Council of Architecture and Town Planners (PCATP) and (HEC) requirements. The curriculum covers an intensive coverage of theoretical understanding of planning concepts and practical experience of planning projects. The broad areas of knowledge covered under this degree course includes; Disaster Management, Urban Design, Mathematical Modeling, Geography, Sociology, Statistics, Economics, Mapping, Community and Social Work, Management and Administrative Sciences, Applied Computer Sciences, Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS). 2SR   ESW

The City and Regional Planners are accepted in government as well as private sectors. The potential employers of BS-CRP graduates include Ministry of Housing; Environment and Protection Department; Planning and Development Board; HUD & PHE; Research Institutes; The Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency; Civil Aviation Authority; Transport Department; Local Government and community development (TOP&C); NGO’s and INGO’s; Development Authorities; Military Engineering Services; Pakistan Air force; Administrations and many more.

Program Objectives

The objective of this program is to prepare professionals in the city and regional planning with the objective to inculcate the following in the graduates.

  • Fundamental and advanced concepts of City and Regional Planning Systems with particular emphasis on the application of these concepts to further advance the state of technology and to meet the needs of planning industry.
  • Effective leadership and decision-making skills.
