1. ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Energy efficiency in the built environment is vital to achieve economic, environmental, and developmental objectives in the developing countries. Pakistan is also facing the challenges of Energy shortage because of resources depletion, climate change and due to some other contributory factors. So the need of taking measures for developing and implementing the policies of energy efficiency in buildings is quite evident, as it is one of the easiest ways to reduce energy waste, lower energy costs and to combat climate change. Moreover, in recent years the focus has shifted to develop different means of producing green and alternate energy resources.
So this theme aims to find new ways for Energy Efficiency in Building Design and Conservation strategies with the sub-theme as follows:
1. Energy conservation in building sector
2. Energy efficiency and design
3. Renewable, green and alternative energy
4. Climate change and its impact on Energy Consumption
5. Sustainable Materials and Technologies
6. Lighting controls and smart lighting systems
7. Energy policies and practices
8. Energy conservation through waste recycling
9. Water conservation in building sector
10. Sustainable Landscape developments
11. Post Covid-19 impact on Environmental Effects and strategies for sustainability
12. Energy Efficient planning and livable cities
2. Heritage Conservation
Heritage conservation and preservation is an exponentially growing aspect in the field of architecture. The aim of the theme of Heritage conservation is to exchange information and experiences among researchers, local bodies and professionals approaching toward sustainable solutions. With the world’s fast-changing scenarios of climate change and growing economic potential of historic sites stimulate new possibilities. Managing and enhancing their tourism prospects and legislative significance and endorsing possibility of restoring buildings rather than substituting them.
SUB THEMES
1. Architectural Conservation
2. Urban and landscape conservation
3. Tourism and sustainable Conservation
4. Islamic heritage
5. Community participation in heritage
6. Heritage management
7. Legislation in conservation
3. Housing
Housing sector is key component of country’s national and international economic activities. In developing countries, there is an overall lack of access to formal housing for low-income groups, and in urban areas, congestion has caused overcrowding and poor-quality housing. Over the last three decades, the provision of formal housing for low-income groups has evolved as a significant issue for state and local governments in most developing countries due to rapid urbanization. This theme is dedicated to explore the housing landscape of Pakistan with respect to following sub-themes:
4. Cities Management
Theme: Cities Planning and Management
Pakistan is currently going through a stage of continuing momentum of urbanization and humongous horizontal expansion of built-up areas, especially in large cities. Along with the economic development in an around cities, this growth, if not well-managed, comes up with the massive negative pressure on urban systems including transportation, housing, infrastructure, solid waste management, employment opportunities, environmental quality, energy and governance etc. Cities management is a dire need of time to maintain a balance between demand and supply of urban facilities for the residents and manage the continuous influx of population from surrounding areas. The expected outcome would be a ubiquitous urban ecosystem where all the sectors work in integration to facilitate a healthy living environment and prosperous economy.
This theme of Cities Planning and Management includes but is not limited to the following sub-themes.
